At Alora Montessori, every decision is grounded in respect for the child's natural development. We follow the principles of the Montessori philosophy, which values real, simple and meaningful experiences: the kind that support emotional balance and an authentic understanding of the world around the child.

Maria Montessori called the period from birth to age six the stage of the absorbent mind: it's during this time that the child absorbs everything they see, hear and feel, building the foundations of how they perceive reality. That's why it's essential for the environment and experiences we offer to be concrete, true and safe. It's through this connection to what's real that a child builds confidence and inner stability.

Halloween, while a popular celebration in many cultures, is built on fantasy, fear and imaginary characters. For young children, who don't yet fully distinguish what's real from what's imagined, these images can create confusion, or even fear.

In the Montessori philosophy, we try to avoid experiences that could distort a child's sense of reality, or introduce stimulation they aren't yet ready to make sense of.

Instead, at Alora Montessori we choose to celebrate autumn and its very real transformations: watching the leaves fall, exploring the different colours and textures of nature, learning about the animals preparing for winter, and sharing stories that bring calm, joy and meaning.

These experiences spark genuine curiosity, strengthen the child's connection to their environment, and help them feel part of the world in a calm, confident way.

We believe every experience we offer a child should reflect the values of the Montessori approach: simplicity, authenticity and respect for natural development.

That's why, in choosing not to celebrate Halloween, we reaffirm our commitment to an environment that nurtures what is real, what is beautiful and what is true. A place for a child to be happy.

If you believe your toddler deserves real experiences, connected to nature and to the genuine discovery of the world, come and visit Alora Montessori. We'd be delighted to show you our space and share how we create a prepared environment where every child grows with independence, curiosity and joy.
